💡Idea of the Day: Gullak Pay !
1. The Problem
Let’s be real: Going to a bank is nothing but a punishment. You’re either standing in a queue behind someone who is updating a passbook from 2014, or you’re hunting for an ATM that actually has ₹500 notes. We have all suffered from:
Dry ATMs: Urban areas have them, but they are often empty. Rural areas? Good luck even finding an ATM
“Arre Cash kahan se laun” : Despite UPI’s dominance, people often need cash
“Aaj to ji bank holiday hai”: Somehow banks are closed when you need them the most

2. What’s the idea ?
Turn India’s 12 million Kirana stores into a decentralized banking network. Instead of a cold, grey ATM machine, your local Chai-Tapri or Kirana becomes your bank.
Withdraw ? Scan a QR, the shopkeeper gives you cash.
Deposit ? Hand over your cash, and it reflects in your Gullak Pay digital wallet instantly.
How about other stuff ? Over time, more services can be integrated
The Product: Gullak Pay !!
For the User: A slick, minimalist app. It shows a map of nearby "Gullak Points." You pre-set your withdrawal amount on the app, walk in the store, scan, and grab the cash.
For the Shopkeeper: A "Merchant Mode" that syncs with their POS. It turns their physical cash-on-hand into digital balance. No need to go to the bank!
3. Paisa Banega ?
Initially, burn baby burn (ouch!) - Initial Cost: ₹1.2 Crore (Building the secure tech stack + a "feet-on-street" team to sign up the first 500 shops).
Then, Cha-Ching Time! -
Transaction Fee: ₹10 per cash-out (Split: ₹4 to Merchant, ₹1 to Bank, ₹5 to You).
The "Secret Sauce": ₹199/month SaaS fee for merchants to use your liquidity dashboard.
Year | Stores | Daily Txns | Revenue | EBIT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Year 1 | 500 | 5K | ₹91L | -ve |
Year 2 | 2.5K | 38K | ₹7Cr | ~15% |
Year 3 | 10K | 200K | ₹42Cr | ~35% |
4. End Goal
To become India’s largest "Asset-Light" bank. We don’t want to own buildings; we just want to make getting money easier 😀 If you can buy a packet of Maggi somewhere, you should be able do banking there at same time.

📈 Trend Watch: "Premiumization" of Pet Care
The Opportunity: While western trends have always influenced India, a new trend that is "Humanization of Pets" is hitting a fever pitch this month.
The Trend: Search volume for "Fresh Pet Food" and "Pet Staycations" in India has spiked by over 45% in the last 90 days.
The 3-Month Forecast: With the monsoon season approaching, there will be a massive surge in demand for "Rain-Ready" Pet Tech (heated drying vests, paw-sanitizing stations, and indoor mental stimulation toys).
The Gap: India has plenty of kibble brands, but almost zero infrastructure for Pet Geriatric Care (products for aging dogs).
Is next unicorn coming from this segment ?
🛠️ Entrepreneur Hack: The ‘Bumble’ Street Hustle
Zero ad budget. One clever move. Still works in 2026.
How do you get your first 1,000 users when you have zero ad budget? Get inspired from what Bumble, the dating app, did:
The Problem: Nobody wants to be the first person on a platform. It’s a classic “Pehle tum - pehle tum” problem.
The Tactic: Bumble's crew crashed sorority houses with yellow roses and a "little" white lie: "500 guys are waiting for your first move right now!" Once the women joined, they sprinted to the guys and whispered, "The girls are already in." Pure genius, slightly chaotic, and it worked.
Takeaway: Don’t pay for ads - just go be all out in the open! Do things that don't scale until the community feels like a "club" people are dying to join. Curiosity peaks when people see a crowd - like a roadside accident !
🍺 What’s in the news ?
Need for Speed: HUL’s quick commerce sales just doubled—if your startup isn't "10-minute delivery" fast, you’re basically standing still.
Campus Cash: Galgotias University launched a dedicated innovation fund, proving that "staying in school" is now the hottest way to get funded.
Baby Sharks: The BriSharks program is teaching 5th graders how to pitch investors, so get moving before a 10-year-old disrupts your industry!
